I read this and then realised that you’re in the US when I got to the bottom of the article. Here in the UK banks don’t charge you for using debit cards, getting cashback or using other banks ATMs. The only ATMs that will charge you are 3rd party privately owned ones and they’ll have a big notice on telling you that.

Luckily the atm closest to me is from my own bank, but you’re absolutely right in that I spend money a little more carelessly with my debit card than I do with cash.

Since you brought up Costco… I was thinking about biting the bullet and getting a membership. Would you recommend this? Only for certain items or what?
